How to Prepare for a Vacation
If you have booked your vacation or plan on booking one it is always a great idea to plan and prepare for it before you go. Going through the planning and preparing process can add to the anticipation and excitement leading up to the day you leave. To make this easier, I have comprised a list of 10 things to help you get started!
Vacation Checklist:
Clean: before I leave for a vacation I always clean up my home. Why? Because I will not have to worry about it when I get back and there is nothing better than coming home to a spotless bathroom and freshly washed bedsheets after traveling.
Travel documents: check that your travel documents (passport, driver license and visas) are all within the expiration dates and renew if necessary.
Accomodations: make any reservations you need for housing or transportation. You may also want to rent a car or become familiar with the local transportation system.
Pet or house sitter: if you have pets that will not be traveling with you, arrange boarding or pet-sitting services while you are gone. You may also want to have someone check-in on your house periodically or arrange to have your mail held if you plan to be gone for a while.
Contact your financial institutions: notify your credit card companies and banks that you will be traveling. This will help prevent any issues accessing your funds when you are out traveling.
Check the weather: it is important to be prepared for the weather conditions at your destination. Knowing the weather before you go can also help you plan your vacation wardrobe.
Pack: use a space saver bag or compression sack when you pack as these can help save vital space in your luggage. Do not waste precious room for various clothing items or souvenirs on shoes and accessories so bring items that are versatile. However, you do not want to over-pack so make sure you are staying conscience of your method of travel (bus, train, ship or airplane) weight and luggage restrictions.
Chargers and adapters: fully charge your electronics so you do not run out of battery before you reach your destination. If you are going to an area where the electrical outlet will be foreign bring an adapter with you or purchase one when you arrive if you are unsure of which one you may need.
Clean out your wallet: go through your wallet and remove any items you do not need on your trip.
Notify emergency contacts: leave a copy of your itinerary with a trusted person so that they will not only know how to get in contact with you but also where to find you in case of an emergency.
Do not forget to embrace the fun in the planning and preparing process. Your next adventure is awaiting you and happy vacationing!
